Like many other e-retailers, Q4, and including a handful of weeks, is of utmost importance when sales are at their peak. Being able to meet customers' demands for fast deliveries in such a short time requires you to ensure the pace of work in your own process.
To avoid relying on which staffing agency had available resources, or to see the result disappear with the invoice of having to increase staffing by hundreds of percent, the solution was an automatic packing line with double packing machines and associated sorting.
Going from a completely manual process to installing packing machines is not something you do in a flash. Through continuous improvement work on how to use the machine in the best possible way, you can reach levels where one machine replaces 3, 4 or even 5 manual packers.
