Challenges for fast-growing e-retailers

Square footage and staffing costs are the most expensive costs you have as an e-retailer or 3PL. A business move can easily become both painful and costly.

90% of our customers have had to move at least once in the last few years. The growth in e-commerce and 3PL is hard to compare with any other industry. Growing from one year to another by 300% is not uncommon.

These growth journeys are fun, of course, but they are not without worries.

  1. A move becomes inevitable
    It's no coincidence that new logistics centers are popping up all the time these days. In logistically smart locations, hub after hub is being created along European roads and ports. The journey of the parcels has been in mind when these areas were created, but who thinks about the staff? How easy is it for the evening shift, often made up of students who do not have access to a car, to get to work? The availability of flexible staff often decreases the further away from the city center you get.

  2. You need to expand
    To deal with an expansion in the middle of your growth journey is not optimal. Often, you'll run into problems with landowners, local authorities or other stakeholders that are beyond your control.

  3. You outsource the logistics
    Many e-retailers find themselves in an untenable situation.
