We first encountered Jordklok in the summer of 2021, when they realised that their hyperlocal warehouse in Bromma, Sweden, were getting smaller and smaller. The need for larger premises was a fact, and thus they also evaluated the possibility of upgrading both software (WMS) and potential automation solutions.
After finding a new property, just south of Stockholm, the solution was an open tray system with roller conveyors and RFID. A rigorous effort to collect master data from every product has formed the basis for their flow solution.
Picking trays divided into compartments of various size are linked together via a series of volume-adjusted orders from the WMS. Once the operator has picked his 1–10 orders, he/she places the tray on the roller conveyor again. Via RFID readers, the tray is routed to the most suitable packing station, where the tray’s data triggers functions such as the printing of waybills. When the operator has packed his shipment, he drops the package into the hole in the table, where it is then sent to automatic sorting.
By combining a new WMS with our automation solution, the company has halved its FTE (Full Time Equivalent) requirements and significantly moved its upper limit on the number of orders it can handle per day.
